I took a break from all things Donald yesterday (well, until looking at the evening news, anyway), and went skiing. I can’t say that Donald took a break from being Donald, however, as the horrors continue to pile up.
But first, congrats to Greenpeace for making an impossible to ignore statement.
Well … where to start? Yesterday’s Donald events run the gamut from absurd to down-right scary (and the absurd is also down-right scary). Starting with the “A”s, what could be more absurd than The Donald’s renewed claim that he lost the popular vote only because of “voting fraud and “illegals” voting, 3 million or more of them, of course. And he’s stated that he will now launch an investigation into this matter.
What can you say??? It’s not that we didn’t know, before electing this clown, that he was given to unremitting and compulsive self-aggrandizement. He was a TV showman. He was a businessman who erected buildings that he named for himself (seven Trump Towers); hotels that he named for himself (seven Trump hotels); golf courses that he named for himself (17 golf courses); various products that he named for himself (e.g. Trump steaks). He created a University that he named for himself. And on and on. Seen in this light, it’s no surprise that, once President, he could not and cannot accept that the attendance at his Inauguration was less than at Obama’s 2009 Inauguration, or that he lost the popular vote. These inconvenient facts don’t fit with the picture he has of himself as a Superstar, and so he denies them! When Trump was just a private citizen, we could laugh him off . Now, we can’t do that. Now, his delusional behavior presents a real risk to the country and the world.
Next we go to the “D”s, as in “down-right scary”. Without any notification to the press or public, DT has ordered the EPA to shut-down – to cease all activity. Yes, just like that.
What else? By executive order, Trump re-authorized the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines. We could see blood spilled over this one.
And, today, DT addressed the Dep’t. of Homeland Security, in which he announced that the construction of the border wall would begin immediately. He also spent quite some time discussing crime against Americans by illegal aliens, which included introducing members of families that had suffered from such crime. This is, of course, another Trump scare tactic; the Cato Institute has published findings showing that crime by illegal aliens is on the decrease.
So, just a few days into Trump’s Presidency, we see that serious danger lies ahead. We have a madman for a President – a megalomaniac who appears ready to take extraordinary means to advance his agenda. Why have I chosen, as featured photo for this series of posts, a photo of Mussolini and Hitler? Yep, you guessed it!
Here is Keith Olberman, talking about the REAL elephant in the room – the fact that The Donald is crazy:
Lastly, this is from The Economist:
Democracy Index 2016
According to the 2016 Democracy Index almost one-half of the world’s countries can be considered to be democracies of some sort, but the number of “full democracies” has declined from 20 in 2015 to 19 in 2016. The US has been downgraded from a “full democracy” to a “flawed democracy” because of a further erosion of trust in government and elected officials there.
