Poems – July 2016

Here are two poems to brighten up your day!

Ill Will

We are puppets
jerked around by the strings of instinct
You claim you have free will?
That you have choice?
Sure you do
to eat your eggs up or over
to paint your walls eggshell
or off-white
Keep supposing you have free will
while you jerk–off to porno
or jerk around to disco
or hate those homos
Keep supposing you have free will
while you keep filling your face
and killing your enemies
and willing it were otherwise
but it isn’t, and won’t be
until you exercise the ultimate act of free will
and kill yourself

Talk About It

Talk about the human race
It’s a disgrace
what we’re doing to our planet
You don’t get it?

You will
if you live long enough
to see it all
come to nil
The world overwhelmed by us
and our stuff

We were handed heaven on earth
and given “dominion”, so the good book says
Turns out we don’t deserve it …
We haven’t reckoned on its worth

As though we came from space
an invasive species
lacking altogether in grace
We are not angels
nor are we beasts
– the beasts are better
