In Sept. of this last year, New Wave Rafting Co. provided river safety services for the remake of the film “The Magnificent Seven”, starring Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. The location was the Rio Chama below Abiquiu Dam, a spot that has seen many other film shoots, many of which we have participated in. On this occasion, Kathy Miller, President of NWRCo, Britt Runyon Huggins, Operations Mgr. and myself were present. We had with us a raft and inflatable kayak, with which to assist in the rescue of actors fallen in the river (which did not occur).
I found that the physical set-up (buildings, mines etc.), the props and the costuming were very authentic. Interestingly, I also found that I had to make an effort to dispell the notion that the extras were actually who they were dressed to be. That’s what I call effective costuming!
