Calliope Hummingbird Arrives and Pincushion Cactus Blooms

Readers of this blog have become used to seeing photos of birds, flowering cactus and other flowers, as they have showed up this spring and summer (and in former years).

This year, it seems that the pincushion cactus waited for the moisture delivered by the summer monsoon before flowering, and, to quote Kathy, “it exploded”.

Right on the heels of the Rufous hummingbirds, today we saw our first Calliope hummingbird. I will get that hummingbird in my viewfinder soon enough, and bring it to you.
