My father died in the 90s, and my mother lived on alone, in the apartment in New York City that she and my father had shared for decades. After some time, it became apparent that living alone was too challenging for her, and she would best be served by taking up residence in a senior living facility. My brother Joel and wife Carol, who live in West Addison, VT, located a very nice place in Shelburne, VT, just outside of Burlington, and not terribly far from them. My Mom moved in, and resided there until her death at the age of 103.
My parents, my brother and myself (when younger) had spent all of our summers in Vermont. Initially, my father was a counselor, and my mother the camp mother, of a summer camp in Vermont. It was called Camp Arrowhead, and was located on Lake St. Catherine, outside of Poultney, VT. My brother and I were campers, and later I became a “kitchen boy”. Eventually, my parents purchased a summer cottage on Greenwood Lake, near Hardwick, VT. Thus, Kathy and I made one or more trips annually, to either New York or Vermont, to visit my folks, and this continued right up to the death of my mother.
After Joel’s retirement, he and Carol built a gorgeous house on the shores of Lake Champlain, and Kathy and I would stay with them when visiting my Mom in Shelburne. The photos below include many of their home, which I found to be a wonderful subject for photography.

Do you have any emotional scars from the experience? I was bullied because my parents worked at the camp.
