Along the Rio Grande When the Russian Olive Flowers

Say what you will about the Russian olive
(it’s not a native)
but there is no other tree
seen along the river
that smells so sweet
One is overwhelmed by its fragrance
for the length of the Bosque float
at this special time of the year when it flowers

On the Bosque section of the Rio Grande river, in Rinconada, New Mexico (near Taos)
