I took groups into the Gila in the early 70s, while directing a Wilderness Program for New Mexico Tech, in Socorro. Here is my Flickr collection:

    Very nice, Steve! With all due respect to the Rio Grande, the Jemez and the Sangres, the Gila region is the part of New Mexico I really miss. I’m happy for the handful of trips I made down there, but they weren’t nearly enough.

    Thanks! As I said above: Looking over this photo collection makes me wonder why I haven’t returned to the Gila in all the years that have passed since. What a beautiful place!
    Maybe I can get back, but would need to research where the fires were …
