I coughed all night, and told Kathy in the morning that I wouldn’t go to work, and went back to sleep. When I awoke and looked out the window, there he (or she) was, standing on the porch railing. I jumped up and got my camera. For at least an additional five minutes, he walked from one end of the railing to the other, and hopped on and off the table. At one point, he flew closer, getting as close as he could to the window that I stood behind, and looked me right in the eye. He raised and lowered his crest, flicked his tail up and down and puffed out his feathers.

We’ve seen roadrunners around here before. His interest in our porch may be due to the abundance of songbirds at the suspended feeder or seed block that sits atop the overturned bird bath. It’s a little early for lizards and snakes, although the bird may know more than we do about how much longer winter may last.

These are amazing. Thanks for getting off your sick bed to capture these! My advice: sleep with a mask or bandana over your mouth so you get humidity and if you get even a small fever, go for a Z-pack of azithromycin.
