Robots and Rufous – two poems

Robots at War

We are robots at war
hard-wired to replicate
and kill the competition

Rufous and the Meaning of Life

I’m on my porch
practicing sitting still …
but there’s action all around

Of course, the unceasing flow
of cars, trucks, motorcycles
and monster RVs
100 feet away,
on the highway

Closer by
a scrub jay picks a fruit
off the chokecherry

Cindy’s pet crows caw

The Rufous hummer
perches on my fly rod
guarding the feeder

A Broad-tail comes by, the first in a couple of months,
but meets the Rufous’ hostile reception
and leaves

So, you want to know the meaning of life?
Just watch the Rufous hummingbird
It’s all right there
