What is a peace-loving hummingbird to do?

200 feet away
on the highway
the cars fly by

Meanwhile,
on the porch
ten feet from the feeder
I watch
the hummers come and go
going after each other
most of the time
(mostly the males)
tiny, exquisite and nasty by nature
Is there such a thing
as a peace-loving hummingbird?

And what of man?
To what degree
are we
nasty by nature?
Do we make friends
only to defend
against the others?
Is it to remain
kill, kill, kill
or can we all be
friends?
