Professional climbers, like professionals in other sporting endeavors, want to stay in the public’s eye. This impulse has recently reached it’s logical extension on El Capitan, in Yosemite Valley, as the linked article from the NY Times reports. I spent many months climbing in Yosemite, during it’s “Golden Age”, in the 60s. But I wasn’t part of that event, not being in the upper echelon of climbers. Nevertheless, it was great to be there when great things were happening.
